
Ms. Petra Thompson graduated from the
University of Pavol Jozef Safarik School of Law in Kosice,
Slovakia in 2005, in the top ten percent of her class. In the
same year she obtained a Master Degree in Criminal Law and
Criminology from the University of Pavol Jozef Safarik.
Prior to law school, Ms. Thompson worked with underprivileged
minorities and helped them to develop basic learning skills. In
addition, she volunteered with the elderly in her hometown of
Snina, Slovakia. Ms. Thompson is fluent in four languages:
English, Spanish, Slovak and Czech. During high school and law
school, she used her multilingual skills to tutor fellow
students.
As a law student, Ms. Thompson participated in an international
project ‘Bridges,’ focusing on human rights, social rights and
rights of the minorities, and other problems emerging in young
democratic countries. She attended international seminars in
Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Budapest, Hungary, where she
represented her country in debates regarding youth participation
on regional and state levels. In the last year of law school,
Ms. Thompson assisted her former high school, Gymnazium Snina,
with the settlement of a legal dispute.
At Gilfix & La Poll Associates, Ms. Thompson takes pleasure in
helping clients with their estate planning and trust
administration needs. She particularly enjoys working with
limited partnerships and charitable foundations.
